PRQ-22 Series Turbine Air Starters

PRQ22 series engine air starters, with a maximum torque output of 136ft-lbs (184Nm), starts diesel engines up 22L and gas engines up to 44L.

PRQ-22i

Inertia air starter

PRQ-22i (inertia) is the most compact of all and has the safety built in the inertia drive operation; still very simple design and yet very reliable. Although the air quality (cleanliness and moisture) is always important, the inertia starter is more tolerant compared to the pre-engaged.

PRQ-22p

Pre-engaged air starter

PRQ-22p (pre-engaged) has a mechanism that engages precisely the pinion in the engine flywheel before the starter applies the maximum torque to the engine. However, the air quality is important for the life and reliability of the pre-engagement mechanism.

PRQ-22oh

Overhung pre-engaged air starter

PRQ-22oh (overhung) is similar to the pre-engaged version and is the perfect application for situations where the pocket in the engine flywheel housing is not large enough to accommodate the drive housing of the starter (nose cone).

All the PRQ-22 starter share the same air motor and by varying the number of nozzles the air starter is capable to operate at different pressure available for the application as follows:

30-90psi (2-6.2bar) – low pressure
90-120psi (6.2-8.2bar) – standard pressure
120-150psi (8.2-10.3bar) – high pressure
